A la Carte Meals, Airline Marketing Campaign by KLM
Launched on May 25, 2010, A la Carte Meals is KLM’s campaign as well as pilot project testing of a la carte catering on board in Economy Class.
Passengers travelling in Economy Class will be able to choose from four dishes on flights from Amsterdam to Bangkok and Taipei, Dubai, Cape Town, Singapore and Denpasar. Orders can be placed when checking in online. The pilot will run until the end of August 2010.
Customers will be able to choose from meals including a healthy Japanese meal, an Indonesian rice table, a Bella Italia meal, Italian dishes, and a Sustainable dining meal of sustainable, organic chicken, vegetables and cheese.
The meals can be ordered and paid for when checking in online between 30 and 24 hours prior to departure. They will cost €15 per dish.
In 2011, the a la carte menu options are available for all KLM passengers, even those travelling in economy class.
A la Carte Menu in Economy Class
Discover Dutch cuisine: healthy, hearty and flavourful. Begin your Dutch dinner with a starter of beef salad à la hussarde with asparagus spears wrapped in ham. You can then enjoy two fillets of plaice with Hollandaise sauce, mashed potatoes, blanched sugar snaps and carrots.
A selection of Dutch cheeses – Leerdammer and Old Amsterdam – accompanied by walnuts and plums, is followed by a dessert featuring a spiced biscuit mousse with caramel sauce.
Love the elegance of Japanese cuisine? Indulge yourself in the refined tastes of the land of the rising sun. Start your meal with the Japanese delicacy of sushi, a wakame seaweed salad and lightly smoked salmon with wasabi mayonnaise. This is followed by a delightful chicken dish with steamed rice and vegetables and a salad made of Japanese soba noodles and sesame seeds. For dessert, KLM serve vanilla mousse with strawberry compote.
A Bella Italia meal includes the most delicious flavours of Italy. KLM start by serving antipasti with olives, artichoke, marinated goat cheese, stuffed salami, spinata romana and prosciutto ham on a bed of mixed greens.
Enjoy pasta carbonara with pancetta and cheese sauce topped with pine nuts as the main course. As a side dish, KLM serve a traditional Caprese salad with mozzarella, tomato and pesto and tiramisu for dessert.
To start, enjoy a duo of smoked salmon and coconut-marinated prawns. For the main course, KLM serve a filling salad with sautéed chicken strips, roasted sweet peppers, boiled egg and mixed greens, served with a side of Caesar dressing.
KLM also offer mixed organic cheeses: garlic cheese and mild Gouda cheese with rye bread, organic tomato jam and walnuts.
Indonesian Rice Dishes
An Indonesian rice table with its many highly flavoured dishes is a favourite culinary tradition among the Dutch. The Indonesian rice table starts with a kohodo salad with sweet potato, coconut and lemongrass-marinated shrimp and an Asian fruit salad with sweet soy sauce.
The main dish is a Beef Rendang, a slightly spicy Indonesian beef stew with basmati rice and sliced green beans with a side of spicy sambal sauce.
As a side dish, enjoy a ketoprak salad with thin noodles and vegetables and, for dessert, KLM serve spekkoek.
