Interactive and social media based brand marketing campaign of KLM, Claim Your Place in Space.

Launched in April 11, 2013, “Claim Your Place in Space” is the brand marketing campaign of The Dutch airline, KLM Netherlands. The global marketing campaign is encouraging international audience to participate and predict where a high-altitude balloon will pop when launched from the Nevada desert. As prize, the people who participate in competition will have a chance to win a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to fly into space aboard the SXC Lynx.

Developed by RAPP/DDB & Tribal Amsterdam, KLM also launch the interactive site which explains the challenge and invited aspiring astronauts to predict where the balloon will pop between 10 April and 22 April, 2013. After making their predictions participants can increase their chances by asking friends to endorse them, resulting in a bigger place, in return, friends can also join in with the challenge.

The baloon itself will take a journey to the space on April 22, 2013. The balloon will be equipped with cameras and a GPS-tracker, streaming data to the KLM website to let users follow the balloon’ journey in real time until it pops. During the balloon’s journey to the space, the website will track it live providing real time information on the balloon’s exact location.

As part of the campaign strategy for mobile users, separate versions of the site to run on tablet and mobile devices where digital production for the sites was handled by MediaMonks.
