Luggage Tags Facebook App, Online Marketing Campaign by Expedia UK

Launched in April 4, 2013, Expedia.co.uk opens up acclaimed luggage tag creative to the public, offering Facebook fans the chance to create a real advert and win a holiday worth £2,000.

The Expedia’s luggage tag campaign, which uses airport luggage tag IATA codes to create travel related messages such as BON VOI AGE and REE LAX will from April 8th, be open to the artistic license of the British public.

Fans of the Expedia.co.uk Facebook pagewill have the chance to create their own code combinations, using over 9,500 available IATA codes. Individual combinations and messages can be shared with friends, with stand-out creations having the chance to feature as part of the ongoing advertising campaign and win a holiday.

Each week, a submission chosen at random will win a £250 holiday voucher and at the end of the four week campaign the fan with the phrase most creative and relevant to travel will win a £2,000 Expedia holiday, and may see their combination = turned into an above-the-live advertisement.

The luggage tag campaign was inspired by copywriter Jon Morgan and art director Mike Watson at Ogilvy & Mather.

When the first few ads appeared around Canary Wharf, the creative was welcomed with great acclaim by the creative industry. The launch of the Facebook app will see Expedia.co.uk opening up the campaign to offer the chance for anyone to pit themselves against the industry’s top creatives to see what messages they can create.

The luggage tag creative offers strong opportunities for more responsive and tactical advertising and with the weather being front of mind with the British public, Expedia.co.uk will be taking advantage of this flexibility to tie in with this perennially popular topic.

Digital agency Delete socially activated the luggage tag campaign through the creation and development of a multi territory Facebook application together with supporting digital media campaign assets – based on the original creative developed by Ogilvy & Mather.
