“No Flight Booking Fees” Advertising and Marketing Campaign by Expedia Australia and New Zealand
Launched in September 2009, “No Flight Booking Fess” is Expedia’s marketing and advertising campaign in Australia and New Zealand whic focused on flight booking fees.
Research conducted by Sweeney Research among 800 Australians and 300 New Zealanders and commissioned by Expedia found that almost three quarters of Australians and New Zealanders are angered when websites charge fees and believe they should not be charged.
According to Expedia, customers spend up to $50 when they book flights online, and they often are not aware that there is a better option – a place where they can book flights online for free.
As solution, rather than simply create a campaign that said “Expedia doesn’t charge flight booking fees”, Expedia’s develop marketing campaign to demonstrate the value of the $50 flight booking fee. And highlight the fact that $50 is better spent elsewhere, rather than on a flight booking fee.
Set in New York, the campaign looks to demonstrate the true value of $50. The campaign illustrates that what seems like a small amount of money, can actually take you many places.
