Social media tourism marketing campaign by Barbados Tourism Authority (BTA).
Earlier in 2012, the “Diamonds” singer Rihanna has signed a three-year contract with the Barbados Tourist Authority (BTA) to be the face of the Caribbean island. The campaign is expected to properly launch in time for the winter tourist season of 2012.
In August 2012, Rihanna hit the sunny beaches of her native Barbados to shoot a tourism campaign. The pop singer Rihanna is to star in a new “interactive” campaign promoting holidays to Barbados. The Bajan singer has been described as the “pride of Barbados” and share what the island means to her during the campaign, launched on November 21 and planned to rolled out until February 2013.
The launched video shows Rihanna doing what she does best. From frolicking in the sea, riding a bicycle along a country lane, and turning a simple game of dominoes into a steamy affair. In addition to the video, the campaign also has a competition element where fans can enter a ‘watch and win sweepstake’ to score Rihanna-related prizes via the Visit Barbados Facebook page.
It’s a smart move for Barbados Tourism, given the singer’s considerable reach in social media with 63 million followers on Facebook, 26 million on Twitter and nearly 3 million fans on Instagram.
